Open Educational Resources (OER):
free online teaching and learning materials that are available to anyone for private use
Open Source: a program whose source code is available to be modified or adjusted based on users or developers needs or wishes
Copyright: the right to use or copy someone's work as long as the creator has been given credit for their ideas; the creator has "exclusive rights" to his or her works for a period of time
Inte
llectual Property: any work created by the mind such as ideas, images, poems, etc. that is used to make money
Creative Commons: a nonprofit organization that helps people use published works for private use while being compliant with copyright laws
Public Domain: a body of work that is not governed by copyright laws
CC Licenses: Creative Commons licenses help people get their creative works covered by copyrights and give interested parties permissions to use their works
Curriki: online, free, comprehensive, high quality, K-12 learning community resource
Thinkfinity: a comprehensive teaching and learning website that publishes standards based and grade specific content created by content partners and sponsors
Connexions: a website that is shares learning materials packaged into modules for use in textbooks, articles, courses, etc.
P2PU: a free, online learning community that uses collaboration through peer editing and revision to answer questions, give constructive feedback, assess ideas, etc.
EPICEd: an online resource to help teachers share and receive ideas to incorporate technology into their teaching practice
21st Century Skills: including but not limited to a) information, media literacy, and communication skills, b) critical thinking and problem solving, c) interpersonal, collaborative, and self-direction skills, d) global awareness, e) economic and business literacy (including entrepreneurial skills), and f) civic literacy
Wiki:server software that allows users to create and edit Web pages from any Web browser; one can not only edit the content but how the content is organized as well
Merlot: Multimedia Educational Online Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT); peer reviewed content, recognition for the creation of quality teaching resources, and a place to share suggestions and ideas to improve one's teaching practice
